ILLIGH VILLAGE & ZAOUIA SIDI HMAD OUMOUSSA

Douar Illigh is a small village in the south of Morocco located about 50 Km from Tiznit. This Berber village is a must-see during your holiday kingdom's south. You will discover its cultural heritage as well as its architectural heritage which testify to the rich history of Illigh. Formerly the capital of the ""kingdom of Tazeroualt"", part of the Sultan's palace, fortifications and other historical monuments in the Jewish quarter (mellah) and the vestiges of the international market of the time can be visited in Illigh. Where ever you go, the place is full of history.

Initially a Souss brotherhood dating from the 17th century, the Zouia d'Illigh, also known as Zaouia de Tazeroualt, is today a tourist site that had both political and economic influence in the Souss Massa region of Morocco . The Zaouia was founded by Abu Hassoun Semlali, who ensured economic growth in the ""kingdom of Tazeroualt"". It was, however, left behind and was seized by the Alawites during the reign of Moulay El Hassan. The Zouia d'Illigh remains nevertheless known for its moussems (Berber religious festivals) which attracted many visitors coming across the borders.
