THE TIZNIT GREAT MOSQUE

Next to the Mechouar Square, the Tiznit Great Mosque is a religious building located in the Idelha district. The peculiarity of this historic mosque is its minaret which was built in the 19th century and strangely mounted by wooden poles. According to legend, wood was used so that the souls of the dead would gather and rest there. The Great Mosque used to serve as a medersa (Koranic school) and continues to teach Islamic jurisprudence to this day. Thanks to Mohamed Ben Mohamed Taifour Alasgharguissi, the pedagogical methods adopted have encouraged learning and are applied to this day. The Great Mosque of Tiznit was built on the remains of a former mosque. Although it is not accessible by non-Muslims, it is a place worth seeing during a stroll during your stay in this mosque.
